The Japan Anime Tourism Association recently revealed it’s 2018 list of the 88 anime pilgrimage sites. The association had been surveying for an entire year since July 2016, where they asked anime fans all over the world for their favorite real life anime spots. The 88-stop pilgrimage concept originated with Shikoku’s 88 Temple Pilgrimage, Japan’s most famous Buddhist pilgrimage route.

Kadokawa, JTB tourism, and three other companies founded the Anime Tourism Association last September. Their goal is to attract tourists from both Japan and around the world to help regional revitalization projects all over Japan.
