The world has been waiting in eager anticipation to watch the long-awaited film Violet Evergarden: The Movie. It was released in Japan on September 18th of this year, after two postponements (one due to the arson attack at Kyoto Animation and the other because of the COVID-19 pandemic) and has been more than well received. In fact, the film surpassed K-ON! The Movie and has become #2 in the most successful Kyoto Animation films of all time, having stayed in the top ten at the Japanese Box Office for ten consecutive weeks and garnering 1,192,896,400 yen ($18,354,055 USD) at the box office as of November 23, 2020.
Although it’s been available in Japan for some time, the rest of the world hasn’t been able to experience it yet. Now, Violet Evergarden: The Movie will premiere in more countries on December 3rd and 4th.
The next countries to get the film include Australia (Dec. 3rd), New Zealand, Singapore (Dec. 3rd), and Vietnam (Dec. 4th). Release dates have been planned (but not released) for Indonesia and Malaysia as well. Purple Plan is the one distributing the film throughout Southeast Asia. More news will come on the next countries in the line up for the highly acclaimed film.
We are so excited for the film to reach more theaters around the globe, and this is the first step in the rest of the world getting the film in their theaters, such as in Europe and North America. Stay tuned for more Violet Evergarden news!
