Redo of Healer Simulcast Canceled in Germany

Redo of Healer

The new anime adaptation of the light novel series Redo of Healer has certainly been making waves in the wider anime community. The series premiered on January 13th on Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, AT-X, Sun TV, and BS11 and has been met with mixed reception and controversy. Some felt that the anime was “tame” by comparison to what they’ve seen, while others simply wondered “what the hell did I just watch?”

Regardless of what people make of the series so far, the strong themes of non-consensual sex, slavery, and revenge make it a hard sell to international audiences. Publishing studio AniMoon is one company to find that out. AniMoon announced on their Facebook last Tuesday that they were completely unable to find a simulcast partner for the series after a potential company pulled out of the agreement.

AniMoon purchased the rights to simulcast, create, and distribute a German dub to be sold in Germany and central Europe. This announcement came after a statement by AniMoon on January 14th saying that the simulcast for the series had to be delayed. AniMoon will release the uncensored and uncut version of Redo of Healer on DVD and Blu-ray this fall 2021. The boxed release will feature the German dub done in-house at AniMoon, the original soundtrack with German subtitles, and exclusive extras.

While this is only one domestic market consumers may miss out on, it could signal that Redo of Healer will have a hard time being localized and broadcast on other services as well. Time will tell if the remainder of the series will be more palatable to international localizing companies.
