On March 17, 2021, the Free Comic Book Day lineup of comic books was announced! Usually taking place on May 1st, Free Comic Book Day 2021 has been moved to August 14, 2021.
The list of comics for 2021 consists of 50 titles that range from Star Wars to a spin-off title from the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga. Kodansha Comics will share an exclusive preview of Rent-A-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend.
Available from Ablaze, Space Pirate: Captain Harlock is a comic that is based off of Leiji Matsumoto’s Captain Harlock manga. The manga was originally published from 1977-1979 and saw an anime series released in 1978.
Amidst the 50 titles that will be available, there are some other stand-out titles for manga fans as well. These titles include the following:
- Star Wars: The High Republic – The Edge of Balance/Guardian of the Whills – VIZ Media
- ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead/Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – VIZ Media
- Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Dynasty – Tokyopop
- Street Fighter: Back to School Special #1 – UDON entertainment
- Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary – IDW Publishing
- Kyle’s Little Sister – Yen Press
- Solo Leveling – Yen Press
2021 also marks the 20th anniversary for the annual comic book event. The spokesperson for the industry-wide event, Ashton Greenwood, said, “Every year, we strive to bring fans a memorable Free Comic Book Day experience, and with this year being our 20th anniversary, we hope it will be the best yet!”
