Hayao Miyazaki’s 2019 Film Release is “Not Possible”

After coming out of retirement in November 2016, Hayao Miyazaki has been working hard on an anime short and a feature film.

Many details of the film haven’t been revealed, including its title. Only the initial 2019 release was stated, but that might not be possible any more.

At Niconico Chokaigi 2017, Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki said only 20 minutes of the film’s storyboard has been drawn.

The storyboards were originally supposed to be completed by the first half of 2017.

Suzuki went on to say a 2019 release is just not possible. The producer also said he wasn’t sure the film would be done while Miyazaki is alive.

However, the anime short “Kemushi no Boro” (Boro the Caterpillar) is set to debut this July.
