The recent Girls und Panzer live-stream special “Panzer Vor to Episode 3” announced the newest film in the six part Girls und Panzer das Finale film series will premiere to Japanese domestic audiences on streaming services March 2021.
Director of the latest feature Tsutomu Mizushima had revealed on May 1st that the production of the film could continue as normal despite the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tsutomu noted that by the beginning of May the production team had already started editing the film and were in pre production for dialogue for the characters to be recorded.
The finale anime series theatrical release also includes 4DX and MX4D screenings. Each of the screenings combine two of the films together in a 4D screening. The first 4DX screening combines the first and second episodes. The next set of immersive screenings will combine the third and fourth episodes when those episodes release and the last set will combine the fifth and sixth episodes after their eventual release. This is all dependent on conditions in Japan regarding social distancing in movie theatres.
The opening theme for this film, the previous film and the next film after this is called “Grand symphony” and is performed by Sayaka Sasaki. While ChouCho, who is well known for performing the original 2012 television series and 2015 films opening will be returning to perform the opening theme for the last three films in the series.
The first movie in the Girls und Panzer das Finale film series opened in Japan in 59 theatres across the country in December 2017. The premise of the new finale series features new characters from BC Freedom High School as they engage in a climactic winter battle.
While the previous release in the series, the second film premiered to Japanese audiences in June of last year and depicts the finale of the all out battle between the Ooarai Girls Academy against the BC Freedom High School. It also showed battles for the Kuromorimine Girls Academy, the Pravda Girls High School, and other schools.
The films were distributed on home video in Blu-ray Disc and DVD formats in February 2018 and included a new OVA titled “Taiyaki War!”
Girls und Panzer first premiered to television audiences in 2012 with a 12 episode run. An OVA series followed in 2014 with a movie releasing the next year.
