The ongoing anime adaptation of Yūki Tabata’s Black Clover announced via the series’ official website that the anime would be nearing its end in the coming month. The news came on Tuesday that the last episode in the series will be the 170th episode and is to release on March 30th. Furthermore, the final episode of the series is reported to contain an important announcement at the very end of the credits. Fans can only speculate what it could be, with some buzz of a movie or an OVA in production for the series. To say farewell to the series, producer Avex Pictures will stream a live special sit-down with the cast members to talk about the series. The special will stream on March 30, 2021 at 6:00 pm.
The final anime arc of the series, “Clover Kingdom vs. Spade Kingdom,” premiered on January 5th of this year.
The anime originally premiered in Japan in October 2017 with an originally planned 51-episode run. However, due to popular demand, the series was renewed with a 52nd episode premiering in October 2018. The question of being renewed for a second time was no question, with a third season premiering in October 2019. The show entered a brief period of hiatus on April 28th due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and resumed on July 7th with episode 133.
Crunchyroll picked up the series for simulcast on their variously backed web services. For the English dub, Funimation picked up the licensing for dubbing and streaming. The anime also had a notable feature on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in December 2017.
Tatsuya Yoshihara (known for his work on Monster Musume, Yatterman Night, Muromi-san, and Long Riders!) joined the series to direct the anime with the production company Studio Pierrot. Itsuko Takeda (known for her work on Ristorante Paradiso, Blue Drop, and Level E) is the lead character designer for the series and is assisted by Kumiko Tokunaga, who is a sub character designer for the series (with previous contributions to Kingdom). Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (known for his work on Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, Yatterman Night, and Is the order a rabbit?) is the head of supervising the series’ scripts. Lastly, Minako Seki of Kingdom and The Silver Guardian will be composing the music.
