Thanks to Anime News Network, we have some new information regarding two different Star Wars manga series. First off, the Star Wars Rebels manga by Akira Aoki, will be going on hiatus. The hiatus is attributed to “personal reasons” as stated by Aoki. The length of the hiatus is currently unknown.
Star Wars Rebels was initially launched back in December 2019 on the LINE Manga app. The series is an adaptation of the animated Star Wars series of the same name, which aired from 2014 to 2018. The physical edition of the second volume is set for publication in the United States on September 21, 2021.
The synopsis of the series by the publisher, Yen Press, describes the story as follows:
In an era of Galactic Empire rule, as the last of the Jedi are hunted and eliminated, a fledgling rebellion begins to take form. On the planet Lothal, con artist Ezra makes a living stealing Empire goods to sell on the black market, but one heist doesn’t go as planned…Suddenly, this teen’s solitary ways are challenged by a band of ragtag rebels-the crew of the starship Ghost!
Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan Manga Returns
On the flip side of things, manga series Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan is returning from hiatus! The series had initially gone on an indefinite hiatus in January 2020 due to writer and penciler Haruichi’s poor health.
The series, which adapts author Claudia Gray’s novel Leia, Princess of Alderaan, started on the LINE Manga app in May 2019.
Yen Press’ synopsis of the manga describes the series as follows:
The never-before-told story of how young Leia Organa comes to join the rebellion against the evil Empire.
A young Princess Leia spends her days learning the ways of politics, aiding those in need and preparing for the traditional ceremony in which she declares her intention to one day rule Alderaan. But as Leia prepares herself to be named the heir of the throne, she becomes aware of the growing distance between her and her parents, who behind closed doors are leaders of the newly formed rebellion. Upon learning her parents’ secrets, Leia must now make a choice between her responsibility to the people of Alderaan and her responsibility to save a galaxy crushed by the rule of the Empire.
The first volume of Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan was published in English on October 27, 2020.
