The adaptation of Tatsuki’s Fujimoto’s 2018 hit manga was announced at the 10th anniversary livestream this Sunday and further revealed the staff at MAPPA in charge of the anime’s production.

Ryū Nakayama, who has previously worked on Black Clover and Jujutsu Kaisen as an episode director, is heading the series at MAPPA. The company has previously produced Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Kakegurui. Tatsuya Yoshihara, who has worked on Black Clover and Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls, is assisting Nakayama with directing the action scenes for the series.

Furthermore, Makoto Nakazono of DARLING in the FRANXX and Little Witch Academia is assisting the directors as technical director. Kazutaka Sugiyama is designing the series’ iconic characters. Sugiyama has previously designed characters for Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Sugiyama is being assisted by Kiyotaka Oshiyama of DEVILMAN Crybaby and Space Dandy. Oshiyama will be designing the series’ iconic devils, and Yūsuke Takeda of Eden of the East and Vinland Saga is directing the art.

Hiroshi Seko of Ajin and Attack on Titan is writing the series scripts. Finally, Kensuke Ushio, best known for working on the DEVILMAN Crybaby soundtrack, with additional contributions to Liz and the Blue Bird and A Silent Voice, is composing the music.

Viz Media is currently publishing the manga in its physical print form as well as on its digital service alongside Shueisha’s MANGA Plus online service. Viz describes the story of Chainsaw Man as the following:

Denji’s a poor young man who’ll do anything for money, even hunting down devils with his pet devil-dog Pochita. He’s a simple man with simple dreams, drowning under a mountain of debt. But his sad life gets turned upside down one day when he’s betrayed by someone he trusts. Now with the power of a devil inside him, Denji’s become a whole new man—Chainsaw Man!

The series has since wrapped up its first part with the last chapter of the public safety arc, or “Koan,” being published in December.
