Isekai Quartet Film Announced

Isekai Quartet

An announcement has come from the official website for the 2019 comedy crossover anime Isekai Quartet. It was revealed that a new film based on the series is in production and will be released in Japan in 2022. The website for the series has revealed a plethora of information related to the new film, including a promotional video, news on the returning staff, and a visual for the film, which will be titled Gekijо̄ban Isekai Quartet ~Another World~.

The new crossover film will be staffed by a returning cast of voice actors and animators who have worked to produce the first two seasons of the Isekai Quartet anime. The film will be produced by Studio Puyukai, known for their work producing Kaiju Girls, Lord Marksman, Vanadis, and the Pure Pure Pleiades Overlord shorts. Studio Puyukai will be working with Minoru Ashina, who is writing and directing the film. Ashina has also previously worked on Kaiju Girls and the Pure Pure Pleiades Overlord shorts. Minoru Takehara will serve as both character designer and chief animation director.

The premise of Isekai Quartet centers around the crossover of four isekai-genre anime series. Those series are Re:Zero, Overlord, KONOSUBA, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil. Isekai Quartet 2 also features characters from The Rising of The Shield Hero franchise. Isekai is a subgenre of anime where the central premise is that the protagonist is transported or reborn into another world.

Crunchyroll and Funimation both streamed the first season as it aired. Funimation describes the story as follows:

The button appeared out of nowhere. There weren’t any signs NOT to push it…so the solution is obvious, right? Is it a trap or the start of something new and exciting? The crews of Re:Zero, Overlord, KONOSUBA, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil will find out when they go from their world to another and get stuck in…class?! See what adorable chaos they’ll get up to in this collection of shorts!
