Dr. STONE Season 3 Revealed, TV Special Announced

Jump Festa ’22 revealed a lot of great news for anime fans this past weekend. And one of the announcements gave us more info on the latest installment of the incredibly anticipated third season of Dr. STONE. It was revealed that the new season will premiere in Fall 2022. The new season was revealed to the public via a brand new trailer.

The event also announced that the series will have a television anime special titled Dr. STONE: Ryusui. This will premiere sometime this coming summer. The anime special is set after Dr. STONE: Stone Wars and will center on the character of Ryusui, voiced by Ryōta Suzuki. TMS Entertainment will return to animate and produce the special.

A promotional video for both works and a visual for the Dr. STONE: Ryusui special was also revealed at the Shueisha event. In addition to this, the Dr. STONE manga creator, Riichirou Inagaki, was featured on the live stream to confirm that the original manga is nearing its climax. The manga entered its final arc in September.

Season one and two of Dr. STONE are available now on Funimation in English and Japanese

Viz Media is publishing the manga digitally and in print. It describes the manga’s first volume as follows:

One fateful day, all of humanity was petrified by a blinding flash of light. After several millennia, high schooler Taiju awakens and finds himself lost in a world of statues. However, he’s not alone! His science-loving friend Senku’s been up and running for a few months and he’s got a grand plan in mind—to kickstart civilization with the power of science!

Dr. Stone: Stone Wars, the anime’s second season, premiered in January.  

First season director Shinya Iino returned to direct the second season with TMS Entertainment producing. Shinya is known for his work directing episodes of Hanebad!, Revue Starlight, and Made in Abyss. Yuichiro Kido, known for Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, After the Rain, and 91 Days, also returned to the latest season to supervise and head writing scripts.

Yuko Iwasa, best known for Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas and Yowamushi Pedal, is returning as lead character designer. Tatsuya Kato (best known for composing for Children of the Whales and Anima Yell!) and Yuki Kanesaka (known for Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond insert songs) returned to the series to compose the music.
