On Thursday, December 31st, anime streaming site Crunchyroll announced that the English dub to the most recent Konosuba movie, Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! Kurenai Densetsu) would premiere on the platform this weekend. Now, the film has officially premiered and can be viewed on all devices via Crunchyroll.
The cast of the film’s English dub stars the following:
- Arnie Pantoja as Kazuma
- Faye Mata as Aqua
- Erica Mendez as Megumin
- Cristina Vee as Darkness
The film’s cast also reprises their roles from the previous anime dub.
The company originally began streaming the Konosuba film in territories such as the US, Canada, South Africa, Central and Southern America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and North Africa. European (excluding Spain, Portugal, German, French, Dutch and Italian-speaking regions) streaming began on the site on March 25th. The English dub for the movie was originally intended for release in April 2020, but production had to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, Crunchyroll released a statement saying that they wished “to ensure the safety of the Crunchyroll team.”
The series itself is based on the hit light novel series of the same name, with this particular movie being based on Natsume Akatsuki’s novel Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!
Crunchyroll also gave a synopsis of the film, as follows:
A video game-loving shut-in, Satou Kazuma’s life should’ve ended when he was hit by a truck, but through a twist in fate, he ends up reincarnating in another world–and dragging the goddess, Aqua, along with him.
“I’m going to enjoy the life of an adventurer that I’ve always fantasized about from RPGs! Time to be the hero!” But in spite of his enthusiasm, only trouble was waiting for Kazuma.
Namely, the troublemaking goddess, Aqua; The wildly dorky mage, Megumin; And the unrelentingly delusional lady knight, Darkness; He ends up forming a party with these potentially powerful, but incredibly unfortunate individuals, which leads to deep debt, being tried for treason, slaying the Demon King’s generals, and occasionally dying (again).
Then, one day, the Crimson Demon girl Yun Yun says something that makes the entire group freeze up: “I want to have your babies, Kazuma!”
Upon hearing the details, it turns out that the Crimson Demon village that Megumin and Yunyun are from is facing a threat that could mean it’s ending. Kazuma and his gang follow Yunyun, who returns to the Crimson Demon village intent on saving it… when they are faced with their greatest threat yet! What will become of the unremarkable adventurer Kazuma’s life in another world?!
The film originally came to Japanese screens in August of 2019. The film debuted at #8 over its opening weekend, and over the course of its run until September 2019 had earned 511,000,000 yen (equivalent to $4.72 million USD). The movie even had additional 4DX screenings in theatres across Japan in October 2019.
Director Takaomi Kanasaki returned from his role as director of the previous two anime seasons of the series to direct the latest film. Unlike the previous two series, which were produced by Studio DEEN, the movie was produced by J.C. Staff, who are known for Toradora! and Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Makoto Uezu returns to the film to head script writing, Koichi Kikuta returns to adapt Kurone Mishima’s character designs, and Machico returns from the series to perform the film’s main theme song. Ai Kayano, Rie Takahashi, and Sora Amamiya additionally return to the film to perform the movie’s ending theme as their respective characters they play in the series.
