Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon recently had its new character designs revealed for the upcoming spin-off to the Inuyasha franchise.
Inuyasha is a series of adventure, fantasy, and romance. It’s a favorite of many anime lovers and one of the most popular shounen in the early 2000s. During that time, a lot of anime came to growing millennials through Cartoon Network’s Toonami and Adult Swim. This anime made the line-up on Adult Swim and entered the hearts of North American viewers.
What we know about Yashahime
It’s been over a decade since the series ended, but Inuyasha fans everywhere are excited for the sequel series. Here is what we know so far:
Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon features Inuyasha and Kogome’s daughter, Moroha. As well as her two twin cousins, half-demon girls named Towa and Setsuna. The series follows these three girls as they travel between two different time periods, much like Kagome did in Inuyasha. It starts out with the two sisters, Towa and Setsuna, as young children living their life in Feudal Japan. They separate from one another after Towa explores a tunnel. Much like Kagome in the original Inuyasha series, Towa becomes stuck in a different time. Only this time it’s modern-day Japan. As she is lost in this new time period, Setsuna remains in the past.
Towa is eventually found by Kagome’s brother, Sato, and is raised by him until the portal between times is reopened again ten years later. Unfortunately, when the two sisters reunite in their own time again, Setsuna has no recollection of her sister and is now working for Kohaku as a Demon Slayer. The show then follows all three young women, including Moroha, as they travel together “between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past,” according to Viz Media, who has the North and Latin America streaming rights for the series.
Produced by studio Sunrise, Yashahime will consist of some original team members behind Inuyasha. The original creator, Rumiko Takahashi, will be leading character design and officially released some of her designs.
Inuyasha spin-off coming soon
With the initial series being such a success and having lasted as an iconic series after two decades, this spin-off series is sure to be spectacular, especially considering the mangaka herself will be in charge of the main character design and many members of the Inuyasha team will be returning, including Teruo Sato (episode director of Inuyasha) as the director, Katsuyuki Sumisama (in charge of episode scripts for both series), and Yoshihito Hishinuma, who will be working on character design along with Rumiko Takahashi. Kaoru Wada is also returning to compose the music, which is sure to be great considering the original score.
The series releases later this year, expected to come out this fall. If you haven’t watched Inuyasha yet, now’s your chance to check it out before the next series releases.
