On October 13, 2020, Youmacon officially announced that the event would be postponed until 2021 likely due to COVID-19. The annual Detroit anime convention will take place over “Halloween weekend of 2021” instead. Badges purchased for this year’s event will roll over to the postponed event.

Convention staff shared their announcement via Youmacon’s website. They also stated they were looking into additional perks for attendees who purchased a badge to the 2020 event. The hotel for the anime event also issued its own cancellation notice for the event.

Youmacon to Move Online for 2020

As with many other conventions that have postponed or cancelled, Youmacon plans to hold virtual events at no additional cost over the 2020 Halloween weekend for attendees. Further details will be released in the lead up to Halloween weekend.

As of October 17, 2020, Youmacon staff have released details for a virtual photography contest. The contest allows entrants to submit photos in several categories including portraiture, action, and dynamic edits.
