Square Enix Offering Home-Based Work For Employees

Square Enix

In a news release put out on November 25, 2020, Square Enix shared the news that they will be offering employees a permanent work-from-home program as of December 1, 2020.

Well known for game titles such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix implemented this work-from-home program in response to the pandemic. With this news release, they have said that the new work-from-home policy will be “a means of preventing infections during the current pandemic,” while also serving as a permanent program to “create a flexible and diverse working environment.”

Work-Life Balance and Productivity

Square Enix’s new approach to work also brings several hopes with it about the game development within the company. They said that they will be able to recruit from a more diverse talent pool and that they hope to see their employees achieve a better work-life balance.

Considering that Microsoft announced they would be changing their approach to the workplace as well, it is not surprising to see Square Enix making changes. The company also hopes that these new changes will see a burst of creativity and further “bolster productivity.”

Specifics of the Program

Square Enix did share specific breakdowns in the news release on just how this new program will work. Employees will be designated as “home based” or “office based,” where they will work from home or in the office at least three days a week. The company expects that 80% of their employees will be home-based in December 2020.
