The Way of the Househusband

A new announcement from Netflix debuted the English-subtitled trailer for the upcoming anime adaptation of The Way of the Househusband. The adaptation of Kousuke Oono’s comedy slice-of-life manga will have a worldwide release on April 8th exclusive to Netflix.

In addition, the brand new trailer also debuted two new cast members for the anime: Shizuka Itou and Kazuyuki Okitsu. The full cast member list so far consists of Kenjiro Tsuda, who plays protagonist Tatsu; Shizuka Itou, who plays Miku, Tatsu’s wife; and Kazuyuki Okitsu, who plays Masa, Tatsu’s former yakuza underling.

The series The Way of the Househusband follows Tatsu, a yakuza member better known as “Immortal Tatsu”, who is living a reformed post-crime life as a married husband to his wife, Miku. He still runs into trouble with his gang, framed through the life of an ordinary man.

The series is being directed by Chiaki Kon, who has previously worked on Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal: Season III, Devils and Realist, Junjō Romantica. Kon will be working with production company J.C. Staff, known for Konosuba and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? The series’ scripts are being overseen by Sasumu Yamakawa, known for Back Street Girls: Gokudols.

The original manga was first launched by Oono as a part of Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch website in February of 2018. The manga is being published in English by Viz Media, and Shinchosha is publishing the manga compiled into volumes. The seventh volume will be released on March 9th, and the fourth English volume will be released in September 2020.

The series was also adapted into a live-action series in October 2020.

The original manga also won the award for Best Humor Publication at last year’s prestigious Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, with the series also coming as a runner-up in 2019’s Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards’ web manga category. It was also #9 in last year’s Web Manga General Election. Furthermore, the series took the #8 spot in The Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook’s top manga series for men back in 2019.
