The TV anime adaptation of the fantasy light novel series The Misfit of the Demon King Academy has announced a second anime season. The shōnen story written and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma tells the story of a powerful demon king coming to terms with a new world. The series is currently on Crunchyroll, which had picked up the show for simulcast, and is still currently streaming on their service. They describe the story of the first season as follows:
Anos Voldigord was a tyrannical Demon King that eradicated humans, spirits, and even the gods, but became bored of eternal warfare and reincarnated with dreams of a peaceful world. However, what awaited him in reincarnation after 2000 years were descendants who became too weak after being accustomed to peace, and all sorts of magic that deteriorated to the extreme. Anos enters Demon King Academy that gathers and educates those who are viewed as the reincarnation of the Demon King, but the academy could not see through his true powers and ends up branding him as a misfit.
The series features the return of the main cast and crew under the production company SILVER LINK, known for Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry and Kokoro Concert. The series is being directed by Shin Onuma, with assistance from Masafumi Tamura. The original work for the series will be done by Shu and Yoshinori Shizuma, who are overseeing world and character concepts. Furthermore, composition is being handled by Jin Tanaka and Kenji, under the leadership of Ryosuke Naya.
The original series of light novels were published in Japan and distributed under ASCII Media Works, a division of light novel publishing giant Kadokawa, under the Dengeki Bunko publishing imprint.
The exact date of release for the second season of the shōnen is not yet known. However, it has been revealed that the second series of The Misfit of Demon King will be broadcast on release as a “split course,” meaning that the season will be split into two parts to air at separate dates.
