The Way of the Househusband Receives Live-Action Film, Summer 2022

The popular manga The Way of the Househusband by Kousuke Oono has served as the inspiration for both an anime and a live-action TV series adaptation. One more adaptation is slated for next year. Announced by Sony Pictures Entertainment on November 3, 2021, The Way of the Househusband will receive a live-action film adaptation that is set to release in summer 2022.

Cast members from the TV series shared the announcement in a video posted to the series’ official Twitter account. Shared in the Tweet was also news of a surprise:

The live-action cast for the TV series will return to their roles for the film. This includes the following:

  • Hiroshi Tamaki as main character Tatsu
  • Haruna Kawaguchi as Miku
  • Jun Shison as Masa
  • Tamaki Shiratori as Himwari
  • Izumi Inamori as Ibari
  • Kenichi Takito as Torajiro
  • Yuta Furukawa as Sakai
  • Junpei Yasui as Sadogashima
  • Tina Tamashiro as Yukari
  • MEGUMI as Tanaka

The Way of the Househusband Commemorative Art

Alongside the announcement of the upcoming film, manga creator Kousuke Oono shared a special piece of commemorative art on Twitter. He shared that it was hard to believe that his work was being made into a film but that he is looking forward to seeing it.

The manga version of The Way of the Househusband has been published in the online manga magazine Kurage Bunch since 2018. It follows the daily life of Tatsu, who is a retired and well-known yakuza boss. He has retired to be a househusband in support of his wife Miku, who is pursuing her career. The manga series is episodic and presents Tatsu’s daily life with a comedic twist.

The anime adaptation currently has two seasons available on Netflix. The live-action series is also available on Netflix.
