Edens Zero Second Season Coming Soon

Edens Zero

An announcement was made on the official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Edens Zero. The account revealed on Wednesday that the anime will get a second season, to be released soon. This has come after the Twitter account also teased a future installment back in October that “Shiki and his friends’ adventure will continue.”

On June 12, 2020, Hiro Mashima announced on Twitter that the manga would be adapted into an anime television series. At the Tokyo Game Show livestream on September 26, 2020, it was revealed that the anime would be produced by J.C.Staff and be directed by Yūji Suzuki, with Shinji Ishihira of Fairy Tail and Log Horizon serving as chief director.

Mitsutaka Hirota, who has worked on Zoids Wild and Rent-A-Girlfriend, oversaw the scripts on the anime. Yurika Sako of Food Wars! The Third Plate designed the characters. And Yoshihisa Hirano composed the music. The series aired on Nippon TV and other channels from April 11th to October 3, 2021.

The anime premiered in Japan in April 2021 and aired for 25 episodes. Netflix acquired streaming rights to the series and subsequently released the anime globally on August 26, 2021.

Unfortunately, co-director Yūji Suzuki died on September 9, 2021, before the series’ broadcast was completed. Although he had worked in the industry as a key animator and episode director since the mid-2000s, Edens Zero was the first and only full series Suzuki directed.

The original Edens Zero was written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima of Fairy Tail and Rave Master. Mashima launched the manga in Weekly Shōnen Jump back in June 2018. Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in English, both digitally and in print.

Kodansha describes the story as follows:

At Granbell Kingdom, an abandoned amusement park, Shiki has lived his entire life among machines. But one day, Rebecca and her cat companion Happy appear at the park’s front gates. Little do these newcomers know that this is the first human contact Granbell has had in a hundred years! As Shiki stumbles his way into making new friends, his former neighbors stir at an opportunity for a robo-rebellion…And when his old homeland becomes too dangerous, Shiki must join Rebecca and Happy on their spaceship and escape into the boundless cosmos.

Further adaptations of the manga are coming in the form of a 3D action RPG for consoles and a top-down RPG for mobile devices, which are both being developed by Konami.
