The long-awaited Netflix live-action adaptation of the hit anime series Cowboy Bebop has announced a few different pieces of news recently. First, the series has finally gotten a firm Fall 2021 premiere date. Originally, the series was slated to premiere in 2020, but after a “freak accident” that happened onset, causing lead actor John Cho to get knee surgery, production had to be halted.
Cho needed to get 7-9 months of therapy for his knee after the accident occurred, but before filming could commence after that, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. So, after another delay, the series’ production picked back up again, wrapping up this past March. Now, the first season of Cowboy Bebop will premiere this fall. The exact date is yet to be announced.
Along with the news of the series’ release date came the announcement that the series will get a classic soundtrack treatment paying homage to the original anime series. This attachment to the original series is due to the fact that the music for the upcoming adaptation will be done by Yoko Kanno, who was the musical composer for the original Cowboy Bebop anime series.

The official summary for the series is as follows:
“Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, and Radical Ed: a ragtag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world… for the right price.”
The series has confirmed to have ten episodes, and the cast includes John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Elena Fatine as Julia, and Alex Hassell as Viscous.
