Website for the manga publisher Futabasha’s Web Action online magazine announced on Friday last week that the continuation of Kabi Nagata’s memoir manga series will be releasing an adaptation of the latest installment entitled Meisо̄ Senshi Nagata Kabi: Gourmet de Go! (Straying Warrior Kabi Nagata: Go Gourmet!). The memoir series starts with My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness and continues with My Alcoholic Escape from Reality. The latest chapter is set to debut on February 19th. The manga deals with the sensitive themes of Nagata’s coming to terms with her eating disorder and tells of her struggles with binge eating.
Manga publisher Seven Seas is releasing the second volume of Kabi Nagata’s manga series, My Alcoholic Escape from Reality (Genjitsu Tōhi Shitetara Boroboro ni Natta Hanashi). The manga is set to first release as a single-volume edition digitally, much like the other manga volumes, with a physical print version being released on April 6th. The physical edition was initially scheduled to release at an earlier date but was delayed due to supply chain disruption from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company describes the manga as follows:
“Nagata Kabi’s downward spiral is getting out of control, and she can’t stop drinking to soothe the ache of reality. After suffering from unbearable stomach pains, she goes to the hospital, where she is diagnosed with pancreatitis—and is immediately hospitalized. A new chapter unfolds in Nagata Kabi’s life, as she struggles to find her way back to reality and manga creation in the wake of her breakdown.”
East Press originally published the autobiographical manga series in Japan in November 2019. The manga had success as Nagata was able to present her issues in a very down-to-earth way, which audiences could empathize with.
Seven Seas Entertainment released the first of the manga volumes, My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness, in June 2017. The release was popular in the West as well. The manga went to the top of Amazon’s own curated list of “Best Graphic Novels” in 2017 and on BookScan’s monthly list of top-selling comics.
