Rent-A-Girlfriend Spinoff Manga Goes on Indefinite Hiatus

Rent-A-Girlfriend spinoff manga Rent-A-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Hitomishirimasu) is going on hiatus. The announcement came on Sunday to readers via the latest chapter of the series by Reiji Miyajima and Yuka Kinami. The hiatus is said to last “for a little while,” and publisher Kodansha did not reveal when the manga will return.

Miyajima and Kinami originally launched the manga in June 2020. The story centers on the shy character Sumi from the main Rent-A-Girlfriend series. The manga had previously taken a long 14-month hiatus but returned to serialization on March 6 this year. Kodansha will publish the manga’s third volume on May 17, 2022.

Kodansha Comics licensed the manga, and it describes the story as follows:

The official spinoff manga of Rent-A-Girlfriend, the rom-com turned hit anime, features fan-favorite Sumi, the shy girl longing to come out of her shell. Written and illustrated by original creator Reiji Miyajima! Catch up on the manga before Rent-A-Girlfriend returns for a second anime season, coming soon! Miyajima’s Rent-A-Girlfriend manga launched in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in July 2017, and it is ongoing. Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English.

The original Rent-A-Girlfriend manga is written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima. Miyajima is also handling the story and art of the spinoff series with additional art by Yuka Kinami. Rent-a-Girlfriend has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since July 2017, and has been compiled into twenty-five volumes as of February 2022. The series is licensed in North America by Kodansha USA, which released the first volume in English in June 2020. An anime television series adaptation by TMS Entertainment aired from July to September 2020 on MBS’s Super Animeism block. The show will have a second season that will premiere in July 2022.

Reiji Miyajima has also launched a new manga titled Shiunji-ke no Kodomo-tachi (The Shiunji Siblings) through his Fanbox account on February 22 and in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine on February 25.
